Don’t Forget

Don’t Forget

Right now, would be good time to save something that you will surely never remember to. This is something that we take for granted that will just always be around when we need it the most.

That something is your Documents, your resume, your addresses, contacts, even your favorites.

To be honest, those are the few things nobody ever makes a backup of, and it is so small, but it makes such a ruckus when I can’t recover them after a data failure or hard drive crash.

So let’s get a flash drive (thumb drive) if you have one, if not get one after we do this.

What you need to do is to export your contacts to your desktop in a csv file, if you have Outlook, or use whatever email program you are running, and export your contacts to a file. Save it on your desktop.

Next, go through all your important data, like resume, references, and any other documents you could never be without don’t worry, word documents do not take a lot of space. Copy & save them in a folder on your desktop, call them Doc Recovery.

Now head over to your favorites, click on my computer, click on the C directory, click on user, this would be the name of the PC, then click on the favorites icon, this will expand to show all your favorites you have saved. Make a folder on your desktop called, Favs. Click on it to open it, then in the current favorites, drag all of them you want to keep into the new folder, when you are done, drag that folder to Doc Recovery. Now if you have a flash drive, plug it in the PC, and drag every folder you saved your data into, into the flash drive folder. Now mark that flash drive with a marker, put today’s date on it and keep it in your sock drawer.  Whenever the time strikes doom on your pc, the things you can’t live without, you won’t have to worry about, and I won’t have to make your day any gloomier.

As a side note, if you change the data you saved, like updating your resume, make sure to plug that drive into your pc and save the most current data, for a resume from 3 years ago won’t reflect well on you!
